Oil Painting Lesson – Introduction to Oil Painting Mediums

Oil painting is a wonderful medium all on its own, but there are modifiers that you can add to the oil paint that can change its behavior. This article will give you an overview of some of the more popular oil painting mediums available to today’s oil painters. The use of oil painting mediums is really a matter of taste and not a requirement. Many artists do not use any mediums at all other then a bit of oil to make the paint more workable, as some paints are quite thick straight from the tube. Other artists swear by certain mediums. It should also be noted that artists differ on opinion when it comes to the effectiveness and quality of oil painting mediums, so you should experiment on your own and form your own opinion. Make sure before using any oil painting medium that you read all warning labels and always work in a well ventilated area. It is also recommended that you work with gloves to protect your skin.

5 Essential Tips for Night Photography

Photography at night can be used to create mysterious and amazing photos. The long exposures associated with low light can create unique effects and unusually sharp photos. And when I say long exposures I mean exposures lasting from half a second up to even 15 – 30 seconds. Below are suggested to be the top 5 essential tips for night photography to be successful.

1. Use of flash

With insufficient light from the moon, most photographers will supplement the light with hand-held flashes, a technique known as “painting with light.” Other more sophisticated ones may also use movie lights and torches as additional lights. However, I strongly encourage not to use so much flash and actually try to capture the natural light from the surroundings.

2. Equipment

For low light photos, a tripod is very necessary. Be it a normal one or a miniature one, they will save you lots of trouble. As mentioned too, a miniature tripod can be very handy because it is typically small enough to fit in a pants pocket so it can be taken anywhere.

How to Remove Dog Ticks

Ticks are a nasty little arachnid pest that attach to your dog and can be very irritating and soar for your pet. They carry many different diseases that can be mildly dangerous to your dog and other members of your household. Some diseases take up to twenty four hours to pass on to their host so getting rid of the pests easily and quickly is essential.

There are a lot of ways that you may have been taught as a child to get rid of ticks from the skin, the most popular is probably to burn the tick into releasing his grip of his own accord so no further problems can arise of having the jaws still stuck into the skin.

The second way often taught to get rid of ticks is to smother them in oil based liquids of Vaseline to help take the tick out in a similar fashion to the way noted above.

These ways are both wrong and can be very dangerous, the first is dangerous, can be painful for your dog and will more than likely scare your dog into behaving in a bad manner. The second is also dangerous and unneeded, the idea is to keep your skin and around the area of the tick as clean as possible to avoid further infection or disease.

Fish are like people in many ways, in that the fish demand oxygen, food, water, cleanliness, tender loving care, associations, and so on. The primary source of fish survival however is water. Freshwater fish are like humans, in that the fish cannot digest large volumes of saltwater, yet some freshwater fish can tolerate a smudge of salt. Saltwater fish on the other hand, demand saltwater. The fish come from oceans, seas, and related waters all over the world. Freshwater fish come from ponds, streams, lakes, rivers, etc. Some of the fish available include the Killifish and Loach fish.

Love of Asian Botanical Paintings

I have a love for Asian botanical paintings. I’ve been seeking them out for a long time. I have many in my collection and love each and every one of them.

The first Asian botanical painting that I bought was Vietnamese. It was one of a series of twelve paintings that I bought that were created by Vu Viet Hung. I have them all over my home.

These oil landscapes by Vu Viet Hung are stunning. These Asian botanical paintings really set a serene tone in my home. The subtleties of the colors and the simple themes go so well on my walls.

I found a lovely Asian botanical painting quite by chance at a yard sale. I don’t usually make a habit of looking for paintings at yard sales, but this one was displayed out front and enticed me to stop. At first glance, I thought I was looking at a painting of a palm tree. At closer inspection, I found that the painting was of a bonsai tree.

Feline Health And Cat Scratching Information

Cat lovers may be familiar with a common habit of cats, that is scratching. They simply appear interesting to watch, when a person sees them scratch walls or the armchair. For those who still want to investigate this, they may place an object in front of their cats provided the cats are not familiar with the same.

Within a moment, owners will notice their cats scratching the object and constantly sniffing it. They may even spray the object with urine. This proves that cats are not only curious about the new thing around them, but also feel threatened at the sight of that object.

Cats generally rub their body against the legs of their owners to call for immediate attention. They support the activity with meowing, which often irritates the owners. It is better to ignore them, at times. Owners also get annoyed, when their cats stroke their hands. Constant stroking may sometimes result in cats attacking their owners with their teeth.

Maintaining Proper Hygiene:

Cat owners need to take enough care to keep their cats clean, always. Proper nutrition helps in keeping cats healthy. Taking cats to the veterinarian regularly for vaccinating them against infectious disease is a practice cat owners need to follow.
