Three Cheap Inside Home Improvement Projects

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Now is a great time to spruce up your home’s interior with some affordable design tips that will make your guests think you bought a new house! We often spend most of the summer months outside of our homes and many times do not pay attention to our home’s interior until it becomes colder outside. With the winter months on their way it’s time to start thinking about all the guests you are going to have in your home. Here are three clever plans:

Paint A Room: You can completely change the feel of any room with a new color of paint. Paint can set the elegance of a room in many different ways. A deeper paint color can add elegance while a lighter color can make a room feel more open. Painting supplies and paint are very affordable these days and applying paint is one of the easiest ways you can improve your home.

Hang A Picture: Before mounting anything too big on a wall you may want to learn about finding studs behind a wall that can hold up the weight of the item you’re hanging. You might want to think of the walls of your home as a blank canvas, just screaming to be decorated. Hanging shelves, artwork, rugs or any other decorative items on a wall is a wonderful way to liven up a room.

Your Friends And Art Contemporary

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

When you tell your artist friends that their artwork is good, are you just being polite? Similarly, if your friends tell you your artwork is actually really cool, are they just being nice?

It’s all about psychology. Take it from me, a failed artist whose friends used to pick me up constantly after I produced yet another self-portrait that showed incredible resemblance to a sun-dried tomato, it’s all in the initial reaction and the way it’s said.

I used to struggle with paints for hours on end as I tried to etch my massive imagination onto a 20″ x 32″ blank canvas, and then I’d end up three hours later with a regurgitated mess heap on paper. It was funny. How do I come to that conclusion? Because my friends used to walk into my dorm room and fall over themselves laughing and on the brink of tears! Please don’t get me wrong, I have some brilliant friends, but I’m just not that good at it. I’ve never aspired to be the next art contemporary genius. I’ve since had to channel my talents in other directions. But remember that it’s a telltale sign that a work of art is not up-to-par if it gets laughed at at first sight!

Creating Art

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Creating abstract paintings is much easier than you would think. Creating abstract art can be easy. It is you subconscious self that produces this art, that’s why abstract paintings are always very interesting and appeals to different people in unique ways.

If you use paper, then the kind of paper you need depends on the medium you are using. For starters I recommend acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is easier to use because it dries faster. Oil paint is messy because it stays wet for more than a say depending on how thick the layers are and when beginners use oils they end up mixing all paint he/she has into a nasty brown color.

You have 2 options when purchasing paper to paint on, it can either be primed or unprimed. If it’s not primed, just apply a thin layer of paint(don’t dilute it) and let it dry, but I recommend the former.

For paint, get yourself the cheapest acrylic paint you can find because initially you are just playing around with the paint and with cheap paint you can splash it around freely not worrying about cost.
