In 2010 a new series of quarters will be launched by the United States Mint. The America the Beautiful Quarters series will issue a total of 56 circulating quarter dollar coins over the course of twelve years, featuring National Parks or other National Sites from each of the states, territories, and the District of Columbia.

The series comes on the heels of the highly successful 50 State Quarters Program. Launched in 1999, the series released a total of fifty different quarters at a rate of five per year until 2008. The series helped introduce a new generation of coin collectors and allowed anyone to learn about the states by examining their pocket change. During 2009, six additional coins were issued to recognize the US Territories and the District of Columbia.

While the America the Beautiful Quarters Program will be similar to the other programs, it will have a unique focus and introduce an accompanying bullion program. The new program will feature 56 different coins, with unique depictions on the “tails side” of the coin. The “heads side” will feature a restored portrait of George Washington. Quarters will also be released at a rate of five per year, but with a single design in the final year. The United States Mint, over the years, has earned a reputation for producing some of the most beautifully designed coins in the world. Most are created as official currency, while some are mainly collectible. The most famous and most highly regarded coin is the American Silver Eagle Coin.

Back in’86, the minting of the American Silver Eagle coin began. This coin was a spin off of the Adolph A. Weinman “Walking Liberty” half dollar. The Walking Liberty was minted in the United States from’16 to’47. This coin’s signature was the “AAW” mark that was found under the eagle’s wing on the backside of the coin. The Walking Liberty is valued at 50 cents.

These are the only coins whose weight and purity that the U. S. Government guarantees. The design is based on the’16 half dollar from Adolph Weinman known as the “Walking Liberty.” This Weinman coin is another coin that was minted by the United States from’16 -’47. The American Silver Eagle coin has become one of the most highly regarded silver bullion coins in the world today. First issued through the United States Mint in’86, the American Silver Eagle has also become the certified bullion silver coin of the United States of America.

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s striking walking liberty design originally used on U.S. Silver Half Dollars from’16 to’47. The reverse design is the John Mercanti version of the bald eagle holding a shield, representative of our nation’s strength and pride.

The United States Mint puts out proof specimens of American Silver Eagle coins designed for collectors. Proof American Eagle Coins undergo a specialized minting process, which begins by hand feeding polished coin blanks through presses fitted with special dies. The coin is then pressed numerous times making a highly-detailed frosted image which appears to drift over a polished, mirror-like background.

Following examination by the Mint’s quality control division, every American Eagle Proof Coin is encased in a protective plastic casing and placed in a striking presentation box with its own official Certificate of Authenticity. Since Silver American Proof Eagles are manufactured by the U.S. Mint, each coin’s weight, purity and content are guaranteed by the United States Government. It is the world’s sole bullion silver coin that can be guaranteed in such a way. The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most adored and highly-collected American coins ever put out by the U.S. Mint. These popular silver coins are regarded for their attractiveness, design and resilient nature. Even though it possibly is the most familiar of all modern silver coins from the U.S., Silver Morgan Dollars hold a great deal of substance historically, being a main part of America’s early growth to the west. There were an ample number of varieties made, making the completion of a collection of Morgan Silver Dollar Coins a real challenge.

Five Mints in total had a part in the production of Silver Morgan Dollars between the years of’78 until’21, these included San Francisco, Carson City, Denver, New Orleans and Philadelphia.

The production of Silver Morgan Dollars ceased in’04 due to a lack of raw silver, and then was resumed once more in’21. During that year, more than 80 million of the coins were made in Denver, Philadelphia and San Francisco. This was also the final year that the Morgan Dollar was to be made, as it was fated to be replaced by the Peace Dollar, which was produced to commemorate the end of the First World War just a few years earlier.  Read more...

Sanctioned by the United States Congress and backed by the U. S. Mint, the American Platinum Eagles is the official coin of the U. S. Containing. 9995 platinum the coin was public in 1997. The coins vary in size from 1/10 to 1 troy ounce.

Uncirculated coins are popular with coin collectors. These coins, known as proof coins, have drawings on them for every year.

From 1907 to 1933 the graphic created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens was selected for use on the $20 gold piece. 1986 saw the resurrection of the graphic for the coins. Available in bullion and proof, these coins can be purchased by anyone. Also shown on some coins is Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman. Created originally in 1916, the graphic was used on the half dollar.

From 1998 to 2002 the proof styles of the American Platinum Eagle used designs from the Vistas of Liberty program. As always, the bald eagle appeared on each but with each year, the eagle was shown to be in a different area of the United States. Then came the three year series that ran from 2006 to 2008. The designs were known as the The Foundations of Democracy and represented the branches of government. Each denomination has the yearly design on it. These are the only U. S.
